Bryan Kelsen was born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa before attending the University of Iowa and completing work on a bachelor of sciences degree in Journalism & Mass Communication (1981-85).

After a brief stint as a stringer for the Associated Press in the Denver, Colorado bureau (11 months) Kelsen became a member of the photo staff at The Pueblo Chieftain in Pueblo, Colorado (1987-present)

During his time at The Chieftain Bryan has continued to accept editorial and corporate freelance work. Formerly represented by Liaison International, he is not currently represented. Kelsen has a love for the outdoors and a strong desire to produce powerful images. These two traits are evident in his work photographing some of the most exciting athletes to ever climb into a kayak, on to a bike or to strap on a pair of skis (or snowboard).

Bryan calls Pueblo, Colorado home where he lives with his wife, Tami and two sons, Zachary, 14, and Barry, 12.
